Salman Afzal is Lahore based design academic, practitioner and manager with interest in textiles, culture, identity, history and  issues of ethics in contemporary global design industry. He is an alumnus of National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore (Pakistan) and University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney (Australia). He has worked with Lahore Grammar School, NCA Lahore, UNSW Sydney, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad and  Institute for Art and Culture (IAC) Lahore. At IAC he headed the undergraduate Textiles Program and strategized revolutionary curriculum interventions through liaising traditional-cultural practices in the region with contemporary studio art-design education. This unique model paved way for creation of  Center for Creative Partnerships and IAC Sanjhok Collective, both providing  medium and platform for interdisciplinary learning of artists, designers, artisans and entrepreneurs.

Afzal has completed numerous projects dealing with design pedagogy, creative management, textiles, artisan practices, curation,  cultural representations and capacity building initiatives. He  is a COFA International Scholar and certified master trainer from Higher Education Commission, who has conducted workshops in Pakistan and United States.

Currently he is working as an independent academic consultant and collaborator between Pakistan and US. His entrepreneurial endeavor ‘Bellisimo Crafts’ debuted in 2017, and has since then evolved into a unique international organization. This small scale business was founded out of compassion and appreciation for fair trade and preservation of indigenous artisan knowledge and practices.
